2019-2020 Dam Project

As many are aware from discussion at prior Lake Association meetings, our dam, as others in Madison County, did not meet the new Dam Safety Regulations completely.

The State Thruway Authority and now fortunately the New York State Canal Corporation (NYSCC) under the auspices of the New York Power Authority (NYPA) is in charge of the NY State Canals which includes the southern feeder Reservoirs including DeRuyter.

As you recall, the NYSCC began cutting the over growth of trees on the back side of the dam, fenced in the "parking area", reviewed core sampling and piezometer data and continued work with the consultants on required repairs.

We will use this site to keep folks updated as to the project through its completion with notices, photos, possible videos and webinars and meetings. The page will be under the Lake Issues Heading entitled 2019-2020 Dam Project.

To that end, the NYPA has set up its first public informational meeting for stakeholders on  New York State Canal Corporation (NYSCC) is inviting you to a public information meeting on Thursday, March 7, at 6:30 PM at the Fabius-Pompey Middle School-High School Auditorium (NOTE - Location changed to the ELEMENTARY SCHOOL which is located on the Main St, Rt 80 in Fabius)  to discuss the next steps in the NYSCC's planned rehabilitation efforts at the dam on the DeRuyter Reservoir (Attached is the notice in pdf format.)
